The high temperatures and dry weather has left most of the Mediterranean farm land thirsty for water in 2022. This has resulted in significant decreases in the production level in Spain and Italy as well as significant differences in quality. In this context, it's not surprising that irrigated farms have fared better. We have tasted many new harvest oils and have been particularly impressed by 2 oils from our partner Oro Bailen based in Andalusia. Its arbequina, which has been one of our best selling premium olive oils for many years has been a great vintage. Fruity, delicate and balanced, the 2022/2023 Oro Bailen arbequina is a premium olive oil we have thoroughly enjoyed. It is quite different from the styles of arbequinas produced in the North of Spain. We view this oil as one of the best ambassadors for premium olive oils since it offers all the qualities of an early harvest olive oil of the highest quality without being overpowering. This versatility makes it a perfect all rounder, which can add character to most dishes. Oro Bailen arbequina is available in 250ml, 500ml glass bottles and 2.5 litre tins.
Our second favourite is Oro Bailen's organic picual. The new 2022-2023 harvest organic picual is a pure delight. The green olive juice is a medium fruity oil with a light peppery finish. The herbal notes make it particularly well suited to tomato salad, grilled tuna or a winter soup. We equally enjoying for dipping with a beautiful sourdough bread.
