At The Artisan Olive Oil Company, we are passionate about bringing you the finest natural and organic olive oils. Central to the exceptional quality of our extra virgin olive oils (EVOO) are polyphenols—natural compounds found in plant-based foods that are celebrated for their potential health benefits.
Understanding Polyphenols
Polyphenols are bioactive substances renowned for their antioxidant properties. In high-polyphenol EVOO, these compounds have been linked to supporting heart health, reducing inflammation, and offering neuro-protective effects. Not all EVOOs are created equal; studies suggest that higher polyphenol content may lead to better health outcomes.
Daily Consumption Recommendations
Research indicates that consuming as little as two tablespoons (approximately 25 ml) of high-polyphenol EVOO daily can confer health benefits. Most studies recommend a daily intake ranging from 1-2 tablespoons. As EVOO is calorie-dense, it's important to incorporate it into your daily calorie allowance to maintain a healthy weight. We would also recommend finding an olive oil which best matches your taste and cooking style starting from milder and progressively venturing into more intense profiles. High polyphenol oils tend to have a medium to strong taste, which may is not suited to all palates and dishes.
Understanding polyphenol levels
An extra virgin olive oil is considered high from a level of 250mg/kg. As most of our olive oils exceed this level, we have focused on a selection of olive oils exceeding 400mg/kg.
